The character was cast during the production of "The Penguin." Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful.

especially since I think he looks like other famous actors and could have been better
I also didn’t really understand why this spin-off was coming, and to be honest, I’m tired of Batman reboots. But after the first episode I can confirm that this show is amazing (so far). I watched it knowing that it was essential to watch a bridge between the first and second movies, and knowing that Farrell was amazing in the character in the first movie.
But I didn’t expect to like it this much
The acting is fantastic, the writing is fantastic, and it surprised me with a quick twist. The biggest thing I liked was that it had a lot more color in it than Batman. I watched it almost immediately because I had a huge complaint about the movie (it felt like watching it through a Zack Snyder lens).
I hope this one is just as good as it gets because I honestly can’t wait for the next episode
