In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands a high-profile job she’s ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life settings as filming locations for the series, including the still-newly opened American embassy (at Nine Elms) that opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or film production, especially an American one.

Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London, other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. ). The characters are phenomenally written and all of them are enigmas to some degree. Their dialogue is fast-paced and engaging, and the story keeps moving in chaotic political directions.
It felt similar to The Night Officer, but much better
It doesn’t have a strong tone like other similar shows have. I want to compare it to House of Cards slightly, but that doesn’t quite fit. It has a hint of succession, but again not a true match. I see reviews complaining about the lead character and her disheveled appearance and abrasive demeanor, but that’s her thing!
She’s good at her job, so no one cares about her makeup
“You want people in power who don’t *want* to be in power.” Kate is focused on the mission and the cause at hand, where people’s lives hang in the balance. What she wears, how she looks, and even when she sleeps are all secondary to the main mission. I thought her style fit the narrative perfectly and it was a refreshing change of pace. The best part of the show is the relationships they all have with each other.

It’s rare that I like all the characters in a show, but this one did it for me.
