A thrilling journey through the life of Pharrell Williams, told through the lens of LEGO animation. Animal Logic, who animated the previous four theatrical Lego films, did not return to animate the film because it would have been seen as cheating Warner Bros., even though Lego and Warner Bros. share the rights to the original series. Instead, the animation was done at Pure Imagination Studios in Los Angeles and Zebu Animation Studios in India. Both Pure Imagination and Zebu have previously replicated the style of the original film series through theme park attractions, public service announcements, and the 1989 Simpsons episode “Brick Like Me (2014).” Early studio logos for Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Tremolo Productions, and the Lego Group are all made from Lego bricks. But you have to wonder who the movie was made for? Because it’s way too boring for a kids movie and most adults wouldn’t watch it because they’d think it’s a kids movie. I watched it myself last night and found it pretty boring. The fact that this biopic was made out of Lego bricks was the only thing that saved the movie, otherwise no one would have been interested in it except huge Pharrell Williams fans. Also, I don’t know how Focus Features survived the whole year, they’re the only movie company whose theater was constantly empty every time I went, even at Piece by Piece there were only 5 people in total. At the other two Focus Features movies I saw this year, the theater was completely empty and I was the only person in the audio tower. It’s very rare that I’m alone in a theater.
