On an island of haves and have-nots, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance… Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and their “OBX” co-stars quiz each other on the best lines from their hit Netflix series.. Filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina; was originally set to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. I like this show, but it can be very frustrating to watch at times.
He doesn’t even look like a sixteen-year-old
The acting is decent, but as many others have already pointed out, the cast is a bit ridiculous. The lead actor, who plays a sixteen-year-old, is almost 30 years old. All the actors playing teenagers are too old for the roles they’re given, and it ruins the experience a bit for me. Is it really that hard to find decent actors who at least look the age of the role they’re playing?
But that’s certainly not the main problem
The high-level story is good, but the details are where this show falls apart. All the drama and tension is created by the characters doing stupid things. The stupidity ranges from mild to incredibly dense, but it’s always what drives the drama. It’s hard to find likable characters when they’re constantly doing stupid things and never learning or progressing.
And it’s not just the teenagers who are stupid
None of the cops follow procedure, because if they did, the story wouldn’t happen. Every time a character does something smart, it has to be spoiled by someone doing something incredibly stupid, because, again, then the story wouldn’t happen. I wish the writers had spent a little more time trying to find different ways to advance the story, maybe by making the antagonists smart instead of the heroes stupid. I finished season two and I don’t regret watching it.
It’s pretty good, but it could have been a lot better
