Line of Events
During the Romanian Revolution of 1989, Sibiu witnesses a violent attack on a police station that escalates into armed clashes between soldiers, police, protesters, and the secret police. References Rocky (1976). The film had the right amount of everything, be it violence, humor, community, or politics. The 1989 revolution still holds many mysteries, but director and set designer Tudor Giurgiu did an excellent job of keeping the facts tangible. The casting was perfect and every line was fluid, believable, and accurate for the time. The metaphors used make the film not only an action film, but also a psychological film, imbuing each character with flaws and weaknesses. And yet, by the end, you feel sorry for them, cry with them, and start to wonder if you would have done things differently. I can only hope the film gets the recognition it deserves, because it is a masterpiece. (I saw it at an advance screening. The premiere is on October 6.)
