His son David Zayas Jr
Line of Events
He’s smart. He’s beloved. He’s Dexter Morgan, America’s favorite serial killer who spends his days solving crimes and his nights committing them. In Season 8, Angel Batista was not always played by David Zayas.
Dexter Morgan: I lived in the dark for a long time
replaces his father in some shots, as the two look very much alike. Visible throughout the first season, Dexter has a large scar on his left side. Later in Season 2, the scar moved to the right side, leaving his left side without a mark. Over the years, my eyes adjusted until the dark became my world and I could see.

Theme SongWritten by Rolfe KentPerformed by Rolfe Kent After four episodes, I’m ready to declare it the best show on TV right now, one that could someday compete with the likes of The Sopranos and the first season of Twin Peaks as the second-best show of all time (after the incomparable Buffy the Vampire Slayer; the show’s executive producer and writer is former Buffy writer Drew Z. Greenberg, and the cast includes Buffy/Angel lead Julie Benz). Dexter is a sociopath, someone who lacks human emotion and therefore a natural, internal moral compass, and has an unquenchable bloodlust that drives him to kill. But he’s had a lot of leeway, being the adopted child of a cop who (as we see in incredible flashbacks) has effectively instilled in him a complete moral code that he adheres to on a strictly intellectual level.
I saw the future of structuring TV seasons, and this is it
It’s an absolutely brilliant concept (which I assume comes from the novels on which it’s based) that allows the writers to explore the nature of moral behavior and what it means to be human (Dexter is, in a way, an alien). Another thing the show does brilliantly is move at different speeds in parallel. There’s a major, ostensible story arc that lasts the entire season (concerning the cat-and-mouse game between Dexter and a serial killer) and a subplot involving Dexter’s sister’s career as a police officer. The first few episodes have a very strong, completed story arc involving one of Dexter’s cop buddies and a local crime boss, while two of the four episodes so far have also featured a self-contained storyline woven between (and playing off) ongoing episodes.
The cast and production are fantastic
While the writing doesn’t quite match the brilliance of the best episodes of _House_, it’s excellent. The only reason you wouldn’t want to watch this absolutely brilliant series is its frequent use of incredibly graphic imagery: there are probably more severed body parts in these first four episodes than in the first four episodes of every other TV series combined. If you can stomach it, tune in for a mesmerizing look at what makes us human—or inhuman.
